9. Once you crop it, here is what you should have.

10. Next create a new layer called ‘fill blocks’ on top of everything.

11. Take out your magic wand tool (W). Use these settings.

12. With your pattern layer active use your magic wand tool to select boxes you would like to be given the ‘mosaic’ effect. Make sure you hold down your shift key so you can select multiple box selections one after another. To subtract a selection, right click that selection and choose ’subtract from selection’.

13. Now with the selections still active, select the ‘fill blocks’ layer and fill it with white. This is what you should have.

14. Next you can lower the ‘fill blocks’ layer opacity to around 50% or so. Give it a value that you see fit.

Thats it!

Nyet, I plan on installing tutorial help forums in the near future. But for now if you don’t understand something feel free to send me an email. Thanks.

I think that it is a great tutorial. For me everything is very clear. Great Job!

Very well done, I was able to complete it using the GIMP!

Step 10 is wrong: you should duplicate the layer ‘blocks’, otherwise you can’t select those squares with the Wand tool. (It’s an empty layer otherwise).
Otherwise, great tutorial! Thank you!

It was quite difficult for me to understand.
it should have been more simplified.

The only wrong thing about step 10 is you Mr Know-it-all Aart. This tutorial works perfectly.
A big thanks to the author.

Thanks for the tut. I really like it.
The complainers want a magic button to press to do it for them. If it’s more than 3 steps it’s too hard.
Keep up the good work.
